horseplay asked:

My neighbor keeps her horses on my land- she doesn't have enough land and I don't want my colt to be by himself, so it's good on both of our parts. But....her son left the door to the barn, and all four horses got into the feed. :S They ate I'm guessing....about 70lbs of feed. It's been two days now with us constantly checking on them, walking them, and listening to their gut. Everybody is fine so far. Three of the four horses are pooping, all are grazing and drinking. (The fourth may have pooped and we just didn't catch it) But the woman at my feed store told me to feel their hooves to see if they're warm- the only thing is, my horse's feet always feel a bit warm up by the cornet band.

Here's my question:
#1: When horses colic, are warm hooves part of the symptoms, or is this just making sure they don't founder?
#2 What part of the hoof would be warm? And is the part of the hoof wall connecting to the cornet band and the bulbs of the hoof suppose to be slightly warm?

Thank you for answering. And websight would be nice, so I can see it first hand, and not taking a stranger's word for it. No offense. :]
Thanks ya'll!
I know the signs of Colic. I just never heard of warm hooves being a symptom, and wondering if this statement is true.
