Ok Ellie and Kristy are for sale. I would prefer to sell Ellie even though she is the most beautiful horse I have ever owned as she just isn't going to cut it in western pleasure. She is just too powerful in the hindend and propels a rider forward even though she is not heavy on the forehand. It is very uncomfortable for me considering I have several bulging discs in my neck. I think the main problem is she wants to stop so her gait is not fluid. Anyways on to the incident.....
A girl writes me saying she wants to come try Ellie out for a client. She actually shows up (points added) and comes to try her out. Well I had told her about Ellies issues at the lope but she wanted to come see her anyway and I figured well she is a trainer she can handle it. This petite young girl shows up and to me seemed pretty timid. She asks me to ride the horse first which I gladly do since she has only been ridden once this year and there was no way I would have someone ride her before me riding her.
Ellie was a little high in the back so I rode her until she was mellow (all of 10 minutes or so) and then I asked her to get in form in order to show the Trainer how she actually could ride. She was a little fast and her head was up a bit but not very bad, you know how it is after you haven't ridden your horse for 6 or 8 months they get out of shape and stuff. Anyways I get off and ask the girl if she wants to ride and she says yes, let me get my helmet.
She gets her helmet, gets on and off she goes......fast......I thought ok this "Trainer" needs some help. I call her over to the fence and explain some of the cues to her at which time she says "I haven't ridden western in a long time I only do English". In the back of my mind I am thinking you must not have been doing that too long either (I know thats mean of me). So off she goes again....fast.......she is clucking at Ellie to lope now since she can't get her into the WP jog and I yell out "KISS" well she kisses and Ellie goes off into a big lope right to the fence. The girl gets off and says "Oh no she won't work, the lady I am looking for a horse for has a bad back". So anyway we take Ellie to the barn and the Trainers boyfriend says something about the girls Mother. Aha so now it is clear, she is a kid looking for a horse for her mother. If she had said something about the bad back to begin with I would have definately steered her away from Ellie. Trainer? I think NOT!
